Group consent or Cross domain consent is a way to synchronise consent data between (sub)domains of websites. So a group of sites that relate to each other only have to receive consent once from a visitor and then propagate this to other websites in the group.
Since a long time this has worked quite well for both websites on different top level domains like .com -> .de etc but that time has come to pass. Browsers are setting more barriers for this cross-domain tracking.
For now the cross domain consent will continue to work between subdomains but it no longer requires the use of the iframe for this. We have switched to cookies to make this possible as local storage items cross domains has also been less performant.
How to setup cross domain consent?
- First go to the Domain Groups page in the left menu. And click to add a new group.
Follow the instructions to setup cross subdomain consent.
- After you reach the create domain group screen
- Select the subdomains you want to synchronize consent between. Remember that at least one domain needs a Plus plan, the rest need to have at least Basic.
- Enable the button on top “ Enable bulk consent for domains in this group”
- Select the categories of cookies being used on these websites.
- Then type the domain to which the cookie should be set. An example is below
- If you have a main website on https://domain-a.com and your subdomains are running on https://sub1.domain-a.com and https://sub2.domain-a.com then fill in the field .domain-a.com
- If you use sub sub domains like: https://sub.domain-a.com and then have other websites like https://sub1.sub.domain-a.com then fill in the field .sub.domain-a.com
